I don't quite get how experience points work. Do they reset after every level-up, or are they constant as in the games?

And if they're constant, as the level-up chart makes me suspect, why don't newly caught pokemon start with the appropriate amount of exp for their level? It seems that otherwise, their first level-up would take quite a bit longer than it should.

Here's Aether and Hemera's exp scores as I have them currently, just in case:

Hemera: Lv. 6, 285 exp (215 from Aron, 15 from Ratata, 55 from training)

Aether: Lv. 4, 45 exp (all from training)

Exp does not reset, once you reach the level on the table in Exp, you are the next Lv.

Pokémon start at zero exp to represent the time it takes getting used to your 'style' of command, and yes, it will take longer for there first lv. up, but not that much longer, considering higher levels can produce a huge amount of experience, there isn't actually that big enough of a level discrepancy in the earlier levels and that I can give you free levels and exp outside of battle for clever uses of your mons.

Also, mons in the wild gain levels through growth mainly, not so much battle experience.

If this does become to much a hassle, then I will set experience higher, but right now, tis fine.

So a free level up means more work for the next one, then? I guess it would basically give you the benefit of your next level early, so I can see that it's still useful.

It's stated in the Player guide on how much Exp is needed for each level. It's on page 126

And include whole stats. I can't tell without going back and checking the original since the way to spread them is determined by ALL the stats.

ATK:      5 + 0 =  5
DEF:      6 + 0 =  6
SPATK:  4 + 0 =  4
SPDEF:  4 + 0 =  4
SPEED:  6 + 1 =  7

Nope on the Hp. Stats must maintain relation. Adding to Hp would make it equal to SPATK and SPDEF, which its base stats says is lower then them. Adding to Speed is fine, but then you must add to DEF as well as they must remain equal and higher then the rest of its stats because the SPEED and DEF are higher and equal then the rest of the stats in the Base stats.

Sentret

HP:        4 + 1 =  5
ATK:      5 + 1 =  6
DEF:      3 + 1 =  4
SPATK:  4 + 0 =  4
SPDEF:  3 + 0 =  3
SPEED:  4 + 0 =  4

Adding to ATK is fine because raising it still keeps it the highest stat. Adding to Hp is fine because it still stays lower then the ATK stat since you raised that. You can't add to DEF though because SPATK and SPEED now need to be raised to equal HP.

Look at the base stats. They must remain in the same order of highest stat to lowest stat as the base when you add.

I hope you don't mind if I step in here, for the sake of quickness. You actually can't add to Sentret's defense or special defense until hp, special attack, and speed are all above four. The lower stats need to stay lower than the higher ones, making them equal is not allowed.

I understand why this would be distressing, I'm having the same problem with Hemera's defense. It's her lowest stat, so I need to move everything else up before I can help her protect herself better.

Pidgey's stats look fine, but you need to change the final value for HP back to 3.

The Pidgey is fine.

Von's talking about the sentret. Can't add to DEF and SPDEF right now cause that would make them equall to SPATK and SPEED. Since the base stats in those categories are lower, when you add, they must remain lower.
